OUT OF POCKET ROCKS
Community Scavenger Hunt
For new college students, a major side effect of the pandemic was the lack of social opportunities. Mental health among students declined due to prolonged screen times, less interaction with campus green spaces, and increased difficulty of meeting new people.
Inspired by the Kindness Rocks Project, Out of Pocket Rocks was created to give burned-out VCU students a mood boost, a chance to explore campus, and a sense of community. When someone finds a funky painted rock, they can feel good knowing there are people in their community supporting them through thick and thin.
I wanted to share my joy with the people around me, so I painted hundreds of rocks for fellow students to stumble upon during their day. Some of my most loyal participants spent days looking for rocks they didn’t already own! Take a look at the collections I've done.
